I know the truck came with the factory tow package as I have the original window sticker, but looking at the back of the truck, I just realized there isn't any wiring hookup point, just the hitch.

I'm used to seeing newer vehicles where they have a fixed point on or near the hitch for a 7 pin round or 4 pin flat trailer wiring connector.

Is something missing from my 99?

Mines just like that and for the longest time, i've been thinking about mounting an outlet there, then making a wiring harness to use when I tow my boat......one day....one day.

look under by the spare tire, in the frame rail, some have the whole wiring harness for trailer and brake hookup tucked into frame rail. Mine was on driver side.

Yeah I would check along the frame rail. Who knows, the tow package may have never been used. I converted mine to a 7 pin round by taking out the license plate light on the left side of the bumper and widening it with a Dremel tool. It looks really nice, we even did it to my dad's suburban because his was ghetto rigged to the hitch itself when we bought it.

This is the best picture I have on the computer right now. This is with the old hook up, I replaced it this summer with a brand new one. I will try to get some better ones on here tomorrow when I get home.

You can drill a hole in the tow bar and install a plug. I used the combo plug for the seven pin and four pin. To hook it to the wiring harness, I used the adapter "T" that plugs into the trucks wiring harness.

Most places that have supplies for trailers should have the plug and adapter.
I used a hole saw on the front and a smaller hole saw on the back for the wiring harness. :)

depending on what you pull there is also a 4 pin that pops in the spare tire hole in the bumper beside the license plate. think i paid $5 bucks for it and got a pocketed T harness at one of the junkyards.
