Hi All-
Just bought a 2012 Yukon Denali and am a noob to the site. So, I apologize if this has been asked before.

I got my front windows tinted today. The guy said 15% on the front would match the rest of the truck. It looks pretty good but I can tell its a tad darker on the front windows now. What really annoys me is that the stock tint looks like it has a bronze or copper shade where the new front window tint is more of a grey shade.

I'm trying to decide if I should re-do the front windows with a 20% tint or put something like 30% over the back so the "shade" color matches better. Anyone ever notice this? Any input or advise?

Thanks!

Scott

The exact shades will never match because you probably have the GM privacy glass on every window but the front windows and windshield.
The front windows and windshield have the Federal standard 70% tint, and tend to be a greenish/grey type hue, as compared to the dark brown/bronze rear windows.
Some of these SUVs have the regular 70% all around, in that case they will always match as long as they have the same tint applied to them.

When it comes to actual visibility, they should if when they are equal in light transmittance percentage. Your window tinter probably made the mistake of slapping a 15% tint on the front windows to match the 15% GM Privacy rear glass. The issue is he did not calculate the fact that the front windows are not 100% transparent. They are 70 percent.
So basically, to get them to match he should have used a 20% film on top of the factory 70% front glass to bring it down to a 15% tinted glass total.

Thanks for the feedback guys... I'm thinking I might put something like 30% on the back windows. It will make them a bit darker and get rid of the greenish/bronze hue.

The rear windows do not have a green/bronze color, they are brown/bronze. And adding a 30% film to it will not change that.
Your best bet is to get the front windows re-done in a non-metalized, low reflectance tint. Something like a carbon or ceramic tint from Global, SunTek, or Llumar will work. SunTek tint does tend to be a bit green (I have it on my windows temporarily) and I am not fond of it. I bet a tint similar to Suntek was used.

The back sides for the 3 NNBS in my family are all 35%. I had 20% slapped on top of my 35% so it's now 7% transmittance. I even had them check when they did my state inspection for fun. Then they did my fronts and I had 26% (Legal is 25) with my 35% film on top of the 70%

I can take a picture in the sun tomorrow if you want (assuming we don't have rain)
