Just purchased a 2006 Yukon XL Denali a few months ago - it has 100K miles on it. It makes a whirring noise most noticeable between 60-70 mph. Almost sounds like a faint grinding. Took it to a GM dealer, they checked it out and found nothing wrong. I have owned plenty of 4wd vehicles and nothing I have driven makes noise like this - not that is that loud but I swear something does not sound right. I know it is a louder engine than most I have owned and it is AWD (and others I have owned are the traditional 4wd)but still - any suggestions?

Could be your rear end going out. Happened to me a few years ago. Kept getting louder until it clunked to a halt. Hope you can get whatever it is fixed!

I have an 03 which is almost identical to yours. The front differential carrier bearings are common fail items in these and escalades. I went to napa and bought some bearings and tore the fron diff apart and replaced em in an afternoon. Grinding gone. Not sure that your problem is the same but it sounds like it. Mine had 113000 at the time.

Could also just be the normal gear noise you get from awd vehicles.
