OK, it was a short road trip... but it was the first trip longer than my daily commute to work (~20 miles each way). My wife and I took our son to the zoo in Cincinnati today, which was (according to google maps) 100 miles from our driveway to their parking lot. Total trip on the odometer was 207.4 miles. Having a 2005 Sierra prior to this, and reading the real world numbers on here, I was expecting to get high 17's to low 18's on my fuel economy. Surprisingly, from the gas station to the Cincinnati city limits, I averaged 22mpg according to my DIC. After driving a bit through some of Cincinnati's less than desirable down town city streets, and idling for about 15 minutes while we ate on the way back, the end result was 19.6mpg according to the DIC. I filled back up and compared my manual calculations to the DIC. DIC said I used 10.6 gallons, pump said 10.1. DIC said 19.6, hand calculations said 20.5. Overall, I can't complain one bit. I used Shell 93 octane. Only thing not stock on my tahoe are the wheels/tires, which are 20's (had ltz wheels on it), and all terrain 275/55's... and of course the Diablo 93 octane tune with the AFM disabled. It's hard to drive it like a granny after loading the Diablo 93 octane tune on it, but to get between 19 and 22 mpg driving 70mph on an interstate that is up and down the whole way, I am one happy camper.
