Flasher "ticking"

hey all, i have this issue in my yuk, whenever i am driving the flasher will just tick randomly, sounds like the signal light or four-ways are on, but they're not, the lights don't flash, it just makes the "tick" sound...

i had this in my Grand am and i had to take the signal switch out of the steering column and clean up the contact points because the conductive grease they used had jumped across some points... is this the same issue here?

I had this problem on my 97 Tahoe. It was that the turning indicator was shorting out in the internal contacts (like with your Grand Am). I replaced the whole unit as the shorting has killed the cruise control controls and was also affecting the wiper controls.
