Frame rust - how to protect?

Just purchased a very clean 04 Esky. With 71k miles it has some frame / underside rust...but no rot.

So how do I properly protect this thing while driving it in the winter? What reasonable cost options do I have for treating the rust that's under there now and protecting it during the winter?

In the past I'd get under there myself and grind/brush off the surface rust then cover with a rustoleum primer and undercoat...but I honestly don't have time for that any more. What would a shop do and are there any near Boston-north thateven want to take on a job like this?

So I live in the south and fortunately don’t have to deal with this, however I know a lot of people that even just for looks will get the whole undercarriage bed lined. Clearly you would have to call around and find out who would do it for you, but that’s gonna protect you from all that salt and rust shit.

I'm sure there are plenty of shops that would love to take your money especially around Boston, I don't know how you people live there when the ground freezes 15" thick, screw that lol

Are you sure you don't have time to do it yourself? I have no idea what a shop would charge but I did this myself with my dad in I think less than four hours.

I had a factory undercoating on that just needed to be touched up after 11 years of being on the road, I would say we had to do about a third of the bottom in various places from front to back.

We grinded it with wire brush drill bits and it came right off then we put some undercoating from autozone on the bottom essentially as soon as the dust settled.

I am confident that I won't have to touch this up for the next four years or so at least (did it a year ago).


Total cost - something like 6ish cans of the stuff at whatever it sells for, less than 50 bucks and an afternoon of work.
