I am having an issue with my fuel gauge on my 02 Yukon and would like some input from someone that might have had this same issue. My fuel gauge will only go up to indicate 3/4 full. When the low fuel light comes on, it only takes 17 gals. or so to fill it up. I'm wondering if this might be an issue with a stepper motor on the fuel gauge needing replacement or if I have to drop the tank and go the fuel module route. Are there tests that can be performed to determine which it might be? Any input is appreciated, thanks.

Tech 2 is the answer. It will narrow down the choices between front or back. You can diagnose using power and resistors from the rear connector at fuel pump/gage. You need about 85 Ohms on extra power supply wire to gauge to check if swing changes. Was fuel pump swapped out yet? Likely culprit, but gauges ALWAYS suspect on this model.

Thanks for your reply exp500. Fuel pump has not been changed in the 5 1/2 years that I have had the truck. Just one day when I filled up, the gauge went to 3/4 and stopped climbing. I tried to add more fuel thinking the pump had shut off prematurely, but couldn't add more. If I go according to the odometer, I can drive 60 miles after the low fuel light comes on and then it takes around 21-22 gals. to fill the tank. A tech at the local Chevrolet dealer seems to think it's a stepper motor gone bad. I'll take it in and spend a few bucks to have them check it out since it is such a chore to change out the fuel pump.
