I had a LiftMaster 8550 installed yesterday. Much to my surprise, my 2011 Yukon Denali XL will not program to open it. Neither will my wife's MDX. Apparently, LiftMaster is using a new security mechanism that most cars are not yet compatible with.

I was also surprised to learn that GM switched from HomeLink to Lear Car2U - I don't know when they switched, but I do know from looking at OEM part websites, that the 2007-2012 Car2U units haven't changed (was hoping for an updated one in the 2012s).

Lear does make a repeater which will allow our trucks to open these new systems, but it's an additional $35 and requires the use of another plug in the garage. I ultimately will have to mount a power strip since I am running out of outlets. Its just another pain in the arse.

BTW, Chamberlin owns LiftMaster, which also sells to Sears, so just be aware if you buy a new garage door opener that it won't work out of the box.

Intresting... my 2012 Silverado programmed fine, but then again I don't have the 8550. Wonder why they (liftmaster) did that? I hate having a second clicker on my visor if I don't need it.

GM gave up the Homelink back in 2007 IIRC.

could someone post the programming sequence for the lear unit? the owners manual for 2007 has the homelink instructions, and mine has lear.
