Gas Cap + Engine Light

Can anyone tell me how to fix the problem with the gas cap and my engine light on?
In have replaced the old cap for a factory new one and I was hoping this issue will be fixed, but it didn’t.
What else can i try? I don’t have the code with me but technician says is something wrong with the gas cap.

okay how did you know to replace the gas cap without pulling the code becuase a faulty gas cap is related to the evap emissions system wich would be a p0440 or p0442 p0446 etc
find out the code is because if you have an evap emissions code the gas cap is only one of a couple things that could be wrong the gas cap is the first thing you replace in this situation becuase its the easiest and the cheapest
also once you replaced the gas cap how long did you wait for the code to clear becuase it takes quite along time for the drive cycle to complete before the evap system is tested again

i agree. Its probably a bad evap emissions part. Its a common problem. The parts are cheap

You should be able to reset the check engine light with a obd II scanner. Or autozone can do it for you.

you can clear the code but youll just have to wait that much longer to find out weather or not the gas cap fixed the issue

like i was saying the requirements for hte evap system to be tested again IE the drive cycle can take awhile and when you clear the code everything starts all over again

I replaced the charcoal canister when I had that same problem. Worked like a charm.
