Good Morning Gentleman,

I am having an issue with my 97 Yukon SLT 4x4, when I shift from park and I go 3 "clicks" down; which is supposed to be drive. My gear shift indicator located in the dash says I am only in Neutral, but physically I am in drive and the truck will run like normal. What could be going wrong to cause a problem like this? Now the weird thing is, if I go down 4 clicks from park (which is "3") and then back up one (which is "D") the indicator says I am in drive. So it sucks to always have to be counting the clicks in the shift as I move it, and not be able to trust my gear selector indicator. I'm figuring its some stupid sensor gone wrong, please help!

the gear selector switch unit along side the tranny signals the dash unit. you can test it if you have the means. let me know if you need procedure.
