gear shift indication

ever since i bought my truck the gear indication on the dash has partially worked.. i get the orange line on p, n, r but not on any of the drives.. where can i start to look into this. no blown fuses and the connections are tight on the side of the trans with no pulled pins..

In the indicator system they grey wire is active in all forward gears only so if you have continuity and no shorts on that wire from external tranny wired bundle to terminal on dash connector check to see if the the terminal on the switch grounds when in a forward gear. if not replace the switch. If it does then the I/P cluster is at fault unless the wire between the two is broken.
