Getting 8.5 mpg need help

I have tested since March last year, going from 0w20 to 10w40 so far. Since I live I in Canada during the hot summer been using 10w30 most times. This winter trying 5w30 when it is minus 30 celcius. Had the idea from using Lucas lubricants Fuel additive which works. Motor oil does the same thing. Oh and have tested from one liter per tank of fuel to 5 liters. Using 10w40 recently I used 5 liters in my tank. Around town as well as on the highway it works well

Update to oil and gas mix. I have tested for over a year now and even in winter this works. Only thing you will notice is at temperatures starting around minus 20 you will smell burning oil for literally 30 seconds then the smell is gone. Otherwise really works great!

Let me pester you with 10000 questions :p

Could you give an MPG number as opposed to a distance per tank value?

Have you noted any buildup in your fuel pressure regulator, fuel pump, or injectors?

How do carbon deposits look in the cylinders, exhaust, and intake? Oxygen sensors? Catalytic converter temps? Any noted soot around the exhaust pipe?

Have you had the opportunity to do an oil analysis? What about blowby and leakdown tests? Any extra carbon buildup around the rings?

Does the vehicle use any more or less oil than it did previously?

And lastly: Any change in warmup time?

Haven't had a chance to estimate accurate milage I do know highway my fuel economy is terrific. Also no soot. Injectors are clean, as well the intake is also fine. No soot around the exhaust at all. Warm up time about the same. Not saying this is for everyone and probably not for you. Although I haven't had any problems at all. Actually starting is if anything a little easier.

As well my engine has never burned any oil. I don't have oil leaks either.

I had just recalled a friend of mine that worked at a refinery with me and was explaining over many years there is less oil in any fuel now.

Since I had tried the Lucas lubricant that you add to the fuel tank that also did improve fuel economy that is why I tried engine oil.

If anyone wants to try this fine. If you don't want to try it that is ok as well.

So far over a year adding oil to my fuel tank and still no problems.

No have not had a chance to test with 2 stroke oil. I have used so far 0w20 to 10w40.

Although keep in mind I use the think oil in winter the thicker oil is fine in summer. I usually use 5w30.

Being that the amount of oil I am using is less than 10 percent of the fuel that is in the tank it runs smooth and the engine is fine. The engine doesn't seem to burn it but if it is burning some it's clean.

I got some help and a friend of mine and I checked exhaust with a flashlight as well as we did take apart the intake and no soot buildup. Also did some tests and when I put oil into my fuel instead of me getting around 12-14 mpg I tend to average around 20-22 mpg.

Anyways like I said this may not be for everyone. Only reason I did this experiment was I realised I am getting better fuel economy for one reason and that is I am lubricating the fuel system with Lucas fuel additive. Motor oil when used responsibly will do the same job but for a fraction of the money.

We were going over the results, friend of mine has a Yukon as well and we both have the 6.0 liter engine and we usually get 20-22 mpg without oil. With oil in the fuel tank we get around 30 mpg instead. Although keep in mind these are my reafings a friend of mine and I have got and we were impressed. Just use discresion when trying this.

that is on a tread mill? correct? I mean i can get a 1985 square box Ford Ranger that gets 45MPG

\fine print: on a treadmill..


the NBS is 0.45-0.48* coefficient drag you don't get 30mpg with 0.45-0.48* with 6.0L (*with roof rack) coefficient


you would be lucky to get about 13-14mpg at the most



that suggest you have an issue with the odometer double counting the amount of miles.....


the best i have ever done was 31.1mpg in the city and 31.2mpg on the highway that is with 0.34** coefficient drag

the front end on the hybrid looks way cooler anyways..

Am I understanding this right, you fellas are adding engine oil (new) to your fuel tank and getting better gas mileage? Do you guys still have cats on the motors?
