I'm shopping for an 03--06 Tah-Yuk for towing a 6,000# travel trailer. Is there an optional towing package or do they all come with transmission cooler, oil cooler, Tow Mode Tranny, CIII hitch? I have the impression that these all came ready to tow. Thanks for any info!

They pretty much all came ready to tow. I believe they all have the tranny cooler and tow/ haul mode. The towing package added a transmission temp gauge, although the sensor is there even without it, you just need to check the OBD stats to see the value. Some also had autoride auto-leveling rear suspension, although I'm not sure if this was actually part of the tow package.

Not all of the tahoes and yukons came stock with all the tow options from the factory. The 4.8L V8s did not come with factory installed tow packages, or trans cooler.

Thanks. I wondered why two similar motors were offered. I think I know how to find the trans cooler, so I can check. I wanted to hone in on the righrt model as best as possible. Sounds like I need to avoid the 4.8L for a start.

Get an aftermarket trans cooler, the factory ones are small. You can just replace the stock one with something bigger.

Here are some of the RPO codes on my glove box sticker that I have iterprited to be part of the factory tow package on my 2005 Yukon:

KNP NG SYSTEM TRANS, HD 913 (Transmission Cooler)
VR4 TRAILER HITCH WEIGHT DISTRIBUTING PLATFORM (Class IV Hitch)
Z82 TRAILER PROVISIONS SPECIAL EQUIPMENT, H.D. (Trailer Wiring / Factory Trailer Package)

The engine size, rear axle ratio, and whether it is 2WD, 4WD, or AWD will also all factor into the total tow rating of whatever you find.

Once you have a specific vehicle in mind, and know the details take a look here for the year/model/ specific tow ratings.

My Yukon with a 6.0L engine and AWD is rated to 8,200#, while a other configurations for Yukons, Tahoe, and Suburbans of the same year range from 7,700# to 8,400#.

I don't believe the towing package added the trans temp gauge but the sensor does indeed exist without it. My '05 has the towing package and no trans temp gauge but I replaced my cluster with a Silverado SS cluster that did have one and it just works by plugging it in.

01 burb with tow package and 04 Sierra without. Both have tow switch as stock. Burb has added tranny cooler, and power steering cooler. Also, a skid plate was included for the front diff (4wd).

@MSDENEEN , if it has a trans collier stock, it'll be mounted in between the grill piece and the radiator. Like at @Red Rocket said, the factory one is pretty small. I upgraded mine to the tricolor 40k unit and it's awesome. Check out the first page of my build thread for a couple photos of the cooler.
