Posted in somebody elses thread awhile ago about an idea I had for OEM style backup camera in my NBS 07' Sierra Denali..

Finally got around to doing it.

Install was very straight forward, guy included a harness for me to add pins, I had to add mine in spot 1 & 2.

Spliced camera power from the reverse lights (soldered of course). No need to repin anything else, the factory harness already has the reverse switch going up there. Overall I'm pretty impressed

You had to add pins in spots 1 & 2? Huh?

Do you have a picture of your camera mounting location?

yes I had to add a couple pins to the connector that plugs into the rear view...

Nothing fancy about the camera mount - it's just a license plate bracket el cheapo from amazon.

Is that the original equipment rear view mirror?

If so, did you have to order and add that too, or did it come with your truck?

If not, is the mirror from a later model GM truck, or aftermarket?

Is your truck a GMT800 (07 CLASSIC)?

If so, and if you have the original mirror... how did you get the image to show up in your mirror? I have a GMT800, fully optioned with electrochromic mirror, compass, OnStar, and had no idea that by simply adding a couple of pins to the connector on the mirror harnesss, a video image could appear. I think I still am misunderstanding something here.

It's OEM GMT900 or similar gm rear view.

Truck is 07 classic. Electrical connections between mirrors were perfect, with the exception of the video pins.

With the swap I lost onstar, but retained compass, temperature and autodim.

Very straight forward swap.

Did you lose autodim in the drivers mirror? I know the inside will dim, but what about the outside?

yes nnbs mirror & really any backup cam. I used one from amazon, it was like $8.95 works great.

Yes, also you lose the exterior dimming, but I would never really see it work anyway.

Any chance we could do this with an NBS? Wife needs backup cam... she already backed this thing into our garage.

Checking out my options.
