if it's a 4wd you will have take the gear box down but not the
steering column i changed mine 2 months ago. ** you will need

to get a pitman arm puller. harbor freight has them real good

price.

I didn't need to remove the gearbox when I did mine as linked above. I also just used a picklefork and a 5# sledge to get the pitman arm off the gearbox. Not hard. Good luck to you!! Make sure you check the idler arm while you're at it. It is much easier to replace, but probably has the same wear.

Correction- I used a framing hammer, wishing I had a 5# sledge. Lol

x2 look at raving's write up. I did not need to remove mine either, but you need to be careful not to damage the seal.

if the pitman arm is bad, chances are the rest is bad...do them all at once..pitman arm, idler, and tie rods...otherwise 2000 miles down the road something else is going to get worse, and youll have to fix it, then get another alignment, costing more money

Ahh, note on alignment- I paid $150 at the local firestone to have the lifetime alignment package on my truck. Worth it, IMHO, if you wrench, or let the average girl drive your truck , or go offroad, or drive anywhere...

Hahaha. They've never done me wrong, and if they did, I'd just bring it back. In the winter I usually end up in needing to get the alignment done every 2 months or so, from helping folks out, dragging non-driving fools out of ditches, or just out having fun. At least, that's how my land rover was. But land rovers are nowhere near as awesome as super hoes, so we'll see...
