Greetings from Phoenix, I just purchased a used 2003 Tahoe Z71 5.3 to replace my FSJ Cherokee. The posts on your website helped me choose it, so I thought I'd register and say Hi.

Also, as my Tahoe has 140K miles, there are a couple questions I's though I'd run by you:

The Oil gauge is maxed out even with the engine off and the key on. On acc the gauge is zero. I read a lot of posts that say it's either the sender or the stepper motor on the gauge, is there a test to confirm one of the other? I hear the sender is in a terrible spot on the back of the motor and don't want to replace it just to rule it out if I don't have to.

Also, the rear A/C is not blowing any air (although the front A/C works fine) at any fan speed. Is there a fuse (or circuit breaker) I should be checking or a blower motor I can test?

Lastly what is the best repair manual out there for these trucks? I'm a big fan of Bently Publications but they don't list one and I've never cared for the Clymer/Chilton ones (too much text, not enough pictures). I know Helm has good ones but they are $200, are they worth it?

-Thanks, Cerrals :Handshake:

welcome, nice to know there are others that choose to live 3 feet from hell as well, er i mean the valley of the sun.
cant really help with your gauges, but i had my oil pressure, and fuel gauges go wonky on my 05 Denali, and it turned out to be just the stepper motors. most likely the case.
there's a place i went to get my gauges fixed out in phoenix, more than 2yrs ago and zero problems since. so here's their info they fixed mine while i waited right there.
RICHIE RICH 1658 west Broadway phoenix,AZ. 85041 602-304-1246/602-268-5555
not to sure about your a/c issue, i just found out my compressor is bad, so i'm not any help right there. i use the Haynes or Chilton's manuals myself. and again welcome to the forum, there area great bunch of folks here with tons of knowledge, and when in doubt search it out.

Welcome!

While I don't have a great deal of knowledge compared to the rest on here, I have had the rear A/C issue when I got my '03 Z71.

For some unknown reason, there was no fuse in the slot for the rear climate control. This fuse is located in the I/P fuse block on the side of the instrument panel to the left of the steering wheel. It is a 10A red mini fuse and I believe it is the HVAC 1 location according to the diagram.

Good luck!

Thanks for the replies.
FYI, I fixed the oil pressure gauge, it was the sender. Since the gauge maxed out with ignition on but motor off, I narrowed it down by unplugging the sender wire and the gauge stayed at zero, then bought a new sender, plugged in the wire and grounded it, gauge still stayed at zero.
Installing th sender did cut up my hand like everyone says but only took about 10 minutes and now works fine.
