Hi and thanks in advance for any help. I have a 2000 Tahoe LT 1500 5.3l. I am having an intermittent issue with a metal to metal grinding sound coming from the rear. it seems to happen when driving on slushy roads(as I am in the northern rockies). it happens when driving slow, turning, but disappears after an unspecific time(within a 1/4 mile or less). its definitely a scraping, grinding noise. ealier today it happened when pulling into a parking lot after driving the 6 miles from my house(a mile of which is dirt slush covered roads) and quit after I pulled back onto the highway about 500 feet later. everything was fine until I drove back to my house and while turning into my driveway it kind of popped and made the sound again momentarily. the first time I heard the noise was a few weeks ago. I was traveling down another slushy dirt road and did not turn just started decelerating coming to a stop sign and bam loud scraping noise. I stopped, got out and visually inspected the driveshaft t-case rear wheels and brake rotors. everything seemed to look like it should. I pulled onto the highway slowly(incase there was something terrible about to happen lol) and after about a 1/4 mile it stopped and I didn't hear it again until today(when again there was a bunch of slush on the road) sorry for the long post but im trying to make sure I can give you all the info. I am mechanically inclined and have always worked on my own vehicles 10 plus years so I know the basics and then some. any ideas? things to check? common problems? thank you again.
