I've got a 99 5.7. I've replaced the fuel pump and filter. It will go through phases of the fuel pump not turning on( bending down and listening for it). But after it turns over for about 8 seconds, it will start. Just this week, it began starting right when I turn it over. What could this be? Electrical?

Check the batter connections.
But you should have a ground on believe the back of the passenger side head.
Make sure that is clean.

Could also be the connections in the tank.

Thanks for the help! I wasn't able to get under there yesterday, taking a look after work, what about water in the fuel? Possible?

Pump not turning on? Check grounds as said before and possible wiring back to pump. Fuel pump relay. Do you try starting right away or let it "pressurize" before starting. Check fuel pressure. Connect gauge and turn key on. Check reading. Turn off key and pressure shouldn't drop significantly for about 10 minutes. FPR could need replacement or faulty fuel pump.

I do allow the pump to pressurize before turning over. I believe there may be water in the fuel, but I'm going to check the grounds today. Is the ground on the side of the block the only one? And i gave it some water remover solution yesterday, but it was still sputtering down the road. When my tahoe isn't working, it makes my life not worth living lol.

There is a engine to chassis ground on passenger side towards rear of the block/cylinder head. Also battery to chassis ground. Could possibly be water, I would check fuel pressure before draining a fuel tank though.

I can't remember exactly where valve is but follow your fuel rail til you find a schrader valve. Hook up fuel pressure gauge to that valve, turn key on and let pump turn on. Check reading, turn key off and pressure shouldn't drop significantly for about 10 minutes. If pressure is not up to par when turned on could be FPR or pump. And if pressure drops over short amount of time could be FPR, pump, or leaking injectors.

Took it to the shop and it was the cap and rotor. Thanks for the comments though!

So you know.
Look at the fuel lines right on top of the engine where they make the upward turn, then right back down into the intake.
Follow the bigger line back about 8 or 12". You will see a black cap, take that off, looks similar to a tire valve.
That is the Schrader valve. Screw on a fuel pressure tester, key on engine off, start, shut off engine.
Pump pressure, running pressure, see if it leaks down quickly.
