Hey guys so I decided to take the ugly orange reflector out of the headlights for my 07 yukon. Everything was going fine until I decided to use brake cleaner (auto guy told me was best) to remove the old glue before applying the new glue. I wanted to get this all out because once the glue hardens it doesnt fit well and I was worried about not having a good seal. Anyway the cleaner left the lenses looking foggy. I've tried lens cleaner but it doesnt do anything. Does anyone know of a cleaner that will clean the lense? I called the dealership to get a price on just the covers but they only sell the entire headlight. Is there any place I can just buy the lense? Am I forced to buy new headlights? Thanks guys I'm not a happy man at the moment.

Its not a good idea to use any solvent/chemical cleaners on plastic because as you found out...sometimes it reacts with the plastic and your out a lens. If you want the factory looking lights I recommend going the aftermarket route and saving a little over the dealer price for a OEM GM part.

Depo OEM looking replacement
CHSU559H1 Right Side $118.95
CHSU559H2 Left Side $118.95

I dont know your taste but you can also check out ebay/LMC Trcuk for something you like. Good Luck!

thanks for the fast response I appreciate it. Yeah definitely learned my lesson. Thanks for the part numbers from depo. Do you have the numbers for the denali? I know this head light has less orange so at least i'd have some improvement! I found some cheap ones on ebay but its hard to tell if it looks the exact same or not. Thanks again

I agree about using a headlight lens restore kit. First off I would give the plastic a good washing with a dish washing detergent such as Dawn to make sure you have stopped and neutralized any chemical reaction that is still going on. Next I would pop for the best restore kit you can find (this is not the place to cut corners now) and use as directed. I have found that old style cloth baby diapers are wonderful polishing cloths as well as some of the new "micro-fiber" cloths.

Good luck and keep us posted.

P.S. In the future remove old glue with something like a Dremel tool....Never use chemicals on plastic that are not intended for use on plastic.

thanks for all of the replies. I bought a headlight restoration kit before I did all of this to clean the lenses anyways..just a $15 dollar one at the auto store. This did nothing. I know there are good ones out there but they are quite pricey. I"m not sure if i want to take the risk of buying one of these and it not working. It has really left good smear marks on the lens so i wouldn't be surprised if it doesn't work. I can get oem denali's for $350 total online...they have less orange then the Slt's so at least its better. I'm going to call the junk yard tomorrow to see if they have any. Anywho thanks for all the help tho I do appreciate it!

Check out a cleaner called "Nu" they have a whole plastic polishing kit. I used to use the stuff all the time for various things and had great success with it. A buffing wheel would be handy too. If all else fails, I have my old SLT headlights that are like new. I don't know what the going rate is but I shouldn't need them anymore so they'd be available to someone in need. :)

VikingFan thanks a lot for the offer...awfully nice of you! I ended up buying new headlights online because I REALLY needed to have the truck in driving shape asap. Didn't want to risk another day or two trying to work it out. Hopefully those who do attempt this read and learn from my mistakes lol. Live and learn. Thanks again for all the replies tho I really do appreciate them.
