Hello! I've recently bought a 2001 Yukon XL. Its equipped with a Clarion monitor with tv station antentae module thing mounted atop the rear door, and a Panasonic dvd player which I've found out both are only operable with remotes which weren't in the vehicle when I bought it, but that seems to be the least of my worries. . . I'll try to keep this short.

1. Monitor is always on when vehicle is running. There is a power switch on dash under the ON Star button but it doesn't matter which position the switch is at.
2. I don't know what that switch does. Next to it is a aftermarket looking gizmo that says power and has a red light underneath it. (assuming those two are linked and that the switch is no good and also that the light is only for the monitor and not dvd player)
3. DVD player is always on while vehicle is running. It seems to work fine but without a remote Im unable to play the video and shut off the DVD player. (im only assuming that will turn dvd off)
4.Im unable to produce any type of sound. Ive been doing my research and tried hitting cd/aux button on my stock stereo and also tried rear controls but the only thing ive noticed that works with the rear controls is the power button that shuts off the speakers in the rear.
- My most recent attempt alarmed me the most. I plugged in a radio transmitter into the headphone jack assuming the headphone jacks worked in the rear and still was unable to produce any sound throughout the vehicle. I tried all the buttons knobs etc. . . the jack started to smoke. I immediately pulled the cord waited a bit and checked the other jack and had the same results. I don't know why it would be smoking?

Any ideas or steps that I could take to remedy this problem would be great. Im expecting my first child and just had my old vehicle totaled which was a heartbreaker! I thought I got a good buy with this truck and was really excited with all of its features but ive been disappointed with the things that im coming to realize as I get more familiar with it and realize I have other problems as well. Thanks!

Well, for your not having sound problem, I bet you that switch is for an FM transmitter for your sound from the DVD player. My truck had a switch under the onstar and didn't know how to make it work until I went to a car stereo place and the guy figured it out! Just set the switch to on, run a DVD or something on the entertainment center, turn the volume up on the car stereo a bit, and then make the radio search for available stations on the FM side of the radio! More than likely you will run across a channel that will play your sound which you should set in the memory of your stereo!
