I purchased a 1999 Yukon Denali this past summer. When I bought it the guy said the battery was bad and to bring a battery. I took the one out of my 2000 Yukon Denali (engine died). I thought there was probably an alternator issue and after a couple of months I had to replace the alternator (also off my 2000).
On the 99 if I leave the lights on or the doors open for more than 5 minutes the battery is dead. It doesn't run down over night only if the lights are left on without engine running for 4-7 minutes. On the 2000 I could leave the doors open and every light on without a problem. The automatic cutoff would kick in before the battery would ever down. Something like 20 minutes or so. AND... often I would go shut the doors and reopen them just to turn the lights back on so I could keep working!!! Would not die! The battery is not very old something like a year or so. Same battery, same alternator, different car. And yes this happened before the alternator was changed out.
Now this is real concern because A) I work out of the car a lot and need the lights. B) I just bought an enclosed trailer and hooked up the the 7 pin connector this week. The trailer has E-brakes, extra backup light FLOOD lights and interior lights. At times, I need to operate the interior lights for a fairly long time. I can’t afford for the battery to run down.
I saw an older thread here about someone running duel batteries and also about deep cycle batteries.
Thanks in advance

- I want to figure out why the battery runs down after such a short time. I want to operate the trailer interior lights without worrying about the battery running down, loading, working inside etc….
- Under what circumstances should I consider using a duel battery system? How would this install? What are the logistics of actually using it ( never considered this)
- Can someone comment on the use of the different batteries for harder heavier usage such as this?
Thanks in advance
