Looking for some guidance. Friend of mine swapped my engine and and tranny. When he gave it back, it was stuck in 4 low. How do you get it out?

unknown at this time.
Place shift lever in the 4 HI position.
Raise and support vehicle, then disconnect linkage rod from console shift lever.
Shift transfer case into 4 HI position. Lever should be in full forward detent, Fig. 1 .
Adjust swivel to align with hole in console shift lever.
Install linkage rod into shift lever.

I had a similar problem when I first bought my truck too.
The shifter wouldn't move from 2low to 4 hi. It felt stuck like it was binding.

The problem ended up being the linkage under the truck was seized from being exposed for many years. They put it up on a hoist, and sprayed the crap out of it with wd-40 or some other cleaner stuff while I was in the cab moving the shifter around. After 10 minutes or so of spraying and moving.. it now is free moving and shifts great with very little pressure required.

Maybe your linkage just needs cleaning?

EDIT: Wait... if the tranny was just replaced, that means that the transfer case had been moved around. Bet ya it's just binding somewhere. You'll need to have a guy in the cab wiggling the shifter back and forth as much as he can, while your under the truck looking to see where it's binding and trying to clear it up.

Thank you Kind Sir!, once I disassembled the linkage inside the truck
I was able to shift it into 4 high. bolted it back together and now it
is as smooth as silk!
