I have a 98 tahoe, 4dr. My SES light popped on with a 442 code. I've replaced the gas cap, looked around for broken or loose hoses but i can't seem to find anything. Its not driving any different besides using a bit more gas. There is a pretty decent gas smell at the back near the tank when i shut it off. I'm lost... any help would be greatly appreciated.

Since you already have new gas cap and still getting strong gas smell, it could be a leak in filler tube connection, filler vent hose or fuel pump/sending unit seal leak on top of tank.

Besides these, it could be anything in the evap system with a small leak. Evap canister, cracked or loose evap hoses....

Good luck with your hunt for this leak.
