My Roomate has an 03 Hoe with a 5.3

In a morning cold start the truck idles and turns off at times.. He has to keep it revd so it wont die out... Once its warmd up it runs back to normal.

"every morning it revs to 1k then it goes up and down on the idle and sometimes it dies. So after its warmed up enough the idle goes away but I have a check engine. Ive taken it to 2 shops to get it scanned but their scanner wont turn on.."

manifold gasket. does it only do it during colder months? the minute it drops below fifty mine will stumble like crazy and if its really cold it will die unless i keep it rev up. alot of people have this problem which points to manifold gasket, there a few write up on changing it out, pretty easy just very time consuming.

sometimes when it dies it does says "battery not charging" And yes it started to happend when the cold weather started. I have to make sure to warm up the truck in the morning because if i run it when its cold it will die on the road.

One of my friend told me it might also be the fuel pressure regulator.

Might be that, I'd get the pressure checked and that would tell you!

intake manifold gasket. Mine sounded like it had a cam in it until it warmed up. Only did it when temps dropped and truck was cold. Had mine replaced under warranty. afterwards, problem went away.

Did you notice any regained MPG when it was replaced? Just trying to find the time to do mine, would be nice if it still had a warranty

Yea mines sounds like that also when turn it on every mornings. How much was the Intake manifold gasket and also for labor ?

Would a Bad Intake manifold gasket cause the truck to get a Check engine light ? Its weird because my check engine stays on on random days it would go away but after a day or two it comes back.

Is it throwing a Check Engine light? If the scanners will not turn on it is the Cig Lighter fuse that is bad... THat fuse can be found under the hood in the power center on drivers side.. Then the code readers will work.
