Gang,
I installed a pair of HID lamps (DDM Tuning, their brand, slim ballast) in my hoe. When I turn them on, there is a bright but very brief flash, then the lights go dim. Over the next 5-10 seconds, they gradually warm up to full brightness. Is this normal for HIDs in general? Or normal for cheap HIDs? DDM has had very good reviews on several forums that I read, and are local to me, so I thought I'd give 'em a try. Great lights, thinking about putting a pair in our other car, but I'm not sure about this warm up behavior. Anyone else have this experience?

Thanks, good to know. It just struck me as strange that they would come on at full brightness (or so it seems) then dim so much and gradually come back up to full brightness.

I don't know anyone with after market HID's, but I have Factory HID's in a new GM car and they don't have any warm up time.

Same with everyone I know with factory HID's. They instantly light up at full brightness and never change color or brightness.

It has to be something with the ballast, since the HID bulbs themselves are the same.
