On a few of the threads where this mod got it's start, the general consensus was that if you can find a way to keep the antenna grounded then you will keep the reception you were getting before the mod.

I did it 2 ways:
1 -taking the 3 bolts out and laying the whole antenna on its side on top of the fender under the hood - verdict - virtually no reception.
2 - bolting the antenna base back on then removing the antenna, solder the ends of 2 - 3' 14ga wires to a terminal connector and fastening the terminal to the antenna base and tucking the 2 wires under the weather striping up the door - verdict - got a little better reception, but still way too much static for me. i always listen to am/fm radio, no cds, mp3 etc.

It may work for you but it did not for me.

the am/fm stations are to important to me to have static all the time. im in mid Ga and close some of the broadcast stations that i listen to and they still have static. i dont see how it worked for some people. it didnt take but a few minutes to do the 2 different ways, so i say try it and see if works for you. and yeah its back on there with a new coat black paint :)

Thanks for the info.

That still remains the question if the wire in the weather channel is the better sollution?

- And why TWO (2) wires????

- Do you take the insulation off of the 14ga wire?

Thanks.

I was thinking of getting a long peice of wire and fold it in half then solder the ends to a ring terminal. I would twist it to create a helix up the whole length then place it under the weather stripping as mentioned. Making a helix should maximize reception. I've been planning on doing this for forever but have never got around to it yet.
