Hey Guys,

I've been thinking about changing my cats to high flow. My SES light has been on for about 3 years now saying that one of my cats is bad, so I changed the o2 sensors hoping they'd fix that before going to the cats. I recently got a Black Bear Tune on it, and I was thinking of just upgrading the cats to high flow ones.

My questions are:

What will high-flow do that stock cats won't?
What do you guys recommend? I'm in California so I need them to pass smog.

I'm getting about 12-13 mpg on my 96. Will I see any improvements, or maybe some extra power?

Thanks in advance guys.

Obviously they will flow more than stock ones. Slight problem though, beginning this year California decided to change the rules for aftermarket cats. We have to buy cats that are approved to be run here, and those cats are pretty much designed to OE cat specifications. They will flow a bit more than OE catbut not a whole lot. You will only see gains if your cats are already clogged up. I don't think the new law even lets you replace your cats if they are in working order. Anyway, look into Magnaflow cats, I know they make high flow cats approved for here.

How can I really tell if they're really clogged up? I'd rather not just listen to my computer tell me so, I want to know for myself.

Back pressure test. Local muffler shop can do it for you or you can purchase a tester and do it yourself, they are around $50.
