I currently have 55w HIDs in my depo lows and am looking for a bright bulb for my highs.

I'd give my left nut to be able to do to my highs what the HIDs did to my lows.

I did some research and it looks like everyone was saying the HIR bulbs were badass. I just bought a set from http://store.candlepower.com/9011.html and I'm VERY disappointed.

The high bulbs I pulled out were some ebay/china specials that have been in there for almost 4 years. They have the blue coating so the light is white. They have no brand name. They only say 9005 12v 100w.

I've never though highly of the highs or ever thought they sucked. They were just my brights.

SO, I put only one of the HIR bulbs in and they look no brighter than the other. The HIR do have a little more yellow.

So, are these EBAY specials that I bought 4 years ago for $10 better than the $52 bulbs I just bought?

Or anyone have any experience at all with the HIRs?

I had HIR for highs on my Tahoe in my stock housings when i wasn't using my retrofit.

However I had the real HIR bulbs made by Toshiba which are now next to impossible to find. The Philips HIR bulbs are nowhere near as bright, at least in my experience.

Just to clarify, this was on an nnbs tahoe. Doesn't make a difference in this context but I wanted to be precise. :)

One last thing to keep in mind ... the infrared coating on hir bulbs needs time to warm up to reach full brightness, time that it seldom has when used only as high beam.

Man, everywhere all I read was "next best option to HID". I read about the "real" ones being out of production. But these are apparently the new "real" ones. I guess there are some fakes ones Amazon and Ebay.

I ran my car for about 5 minutes tonight with the brights on. Still wasn't impressed so I threw them in the wife's rig. They were brighter than her stock lights, but still not worth it.

Wasted $50 on switchbacks that are blue and a week later I waste $50 on bulbs. Blah!!
