How to Drop tranny pan if exhaust in way.

Just FYI, got it to work easily by unbolting exhaust at the flex joint, then using motorcycle/ratchet straps around the exhaust and crossmember to "pull" the exhaust down about an inch. Then the pan can come out and go on easily.

I released the tension while working on the pan (cleaning, installing drain bolt)....then re-tightened the straps when ready to put on again....just to not stress the exhaust system too much.

Quick and easy.

yea, i had to do the same thing. I used a huge pry bar and just pulled the exhaust crossover down a little. Didn't have the pan ready and it dropped with all the fluid down the drive way. Made a mess. Did the same thing to put it back on.

haha, yeah there is no clean way to do this....stupid gmc engineers with their aversion to drain bolts....I learned the hard way with my old silverado, I just buy a big bag of oil absorbing pellets before the job.

now with the drain bolt i probably wont touch the filter for another 50k miles, and just do fluid changes every 15k.....no more mess.

I tried the pry-bar but couldnt do both (pry, and put pan up) at the same time....the straps were hands free after tensioned!

I made up some new words.
