Hey Everyone,

So I installed a second battery in my car and have quick question. I want to hook up the rear trailer acc power wire to the second battery in stead of having it run off first factory battery. The 2001 tahoe has a seprate fuse for this wire that is a 40 amp fuse. I was curious if I could just take a quick disconnetct clip (picture below) and put it in the half part of the fuse that leads to the back trailer hitch plug and then then run the wire to my second battery with a new 40 amp fuse hooked up to it. Is there a reason why this is a bad idea or anything i should be worried about. I attached pics of the fuse box that i would be tapping into and the factury fuse i would be replacing.

Dumb question how does the second battery get it's charge if it's from the main alternator I would consider installing a second alternator just so you don't have issues with the alternator also what are you trying to power in the trailer usually you need the extra power if you're running a dump trailer, that would feed of your battery. A camper I would consider a small generator but that's just my thought also a 40 amp fuse is a lot of current!

Hey the second battery is powered byt the main alternator and a batt isolator hooked up to the second battery so when the car is not on the bateries are seperated. The reason I want to do this is. I took a 7 pin male tralier plug wired it so it has a pos neg wire coming out of it. My plan is to use the trailer plug as another power access point. So if i want to plug an off road light or use a pump i can take the plug i made and plug it into the female mount. Anything That I would use would not exceed 30 amps. So that is why i want to by pass the main battery and hook it up to the second batt so if i drain the battery i can still start my car.

Hi so after looking at the setup I don't see anything wrong just make sure everything is grounded and rated for that amperage

10 gauge is definitely thick enough as you're not running it very far and 30 amp should be perfect
