My buddy says that you can bypass something on the stock nav system so you can enter stuff while moving. It really pisses me off that you have to stop to input any info. Did GM ever think that the passenger could enter the info? The navi in my Acura (Alpine) is sooo much more user friendly.

I have a AVIC D3 it just required me to change the pin location on one wire, If you know the model of the head unit you can just google "bypass nav for ........... head unit"
I google for 2 hours last night. All I came up with was upgrading to the newer nav disc release version 4.0c. It seems that this newer disc gives you the option to remove the "restrictions" I don't like. The cheapest I could find it for was $199 plus shipping. Anyone know where to find it cheaper?? (besides e bay)
edit-I just called the local GMC dealer parts dept and the guy told me they don't sell the discs there. I googled some more and found gmnavdisc dot com and gave them a call. 2009 update disc is $199 + shipping but it still does not let you enter info while moving as per the guy on the phone.
So...any ideas on how to bypass the stock navi restrictions??

Install an on/off switch on the VSS wire. The "hardest" part will be choosing what style of switch you want and where to mount it.
Isn't the lockpick only available for 07 and up?

I've been reading alot about the switch mod but I think you have to press it everytime you start the truck??? I want something permanent. I'm going to speak to my buddy later this week.

If you install an on/off switch, and always leave it in the off position, then it will be permanent. You're just toggling the physical connection of one wire.
Even more permanent.....just cut the wire. Some say that in the beginning, the navigation doesn't update as quick, but after a while, it adjusts and that problem goes away. I personally haven't tested that. I just installed a switch.

Worked like a charm! Your right, it was harder to find a switch than put it all together.

And for anyone reading, its only been a day so I am not sure if the whole leaving it off permanantly works correctly or not. While it is off it seems to not find the roads correctly.
