Just got a new used 2004 Tahoe and it seems like it takes too long to reach 200F driving around town when it's 68 outside for 10 minutes and it still sitting at around 140F.
I'm thinking a bad thermostat, anyone have an idea?

It's going to depend on how cold it is outside but based on the temperature you mentioned....maybe 5-10 minutes.

They are cheap and easy to replace. Either get one from the dealership and the auto parts store. Stant is good quality if your looking for a name brand.

Good luck

I have an 04' Zhoe.. takes about 5 mins to warm up on a 17degree morning like this morning was.

Was having the same issue at the beginning of winter, replaced thermostat with OEM replacement and problem fixed. Good luck!

Me again,
I replaced the thermostat with an OEM and still in a 68 degree weather it takes 15 minutes to get to 200 F.
What else is there?

I wouldn't be to worried.....as long as it's staying at 200 and not fluctuating up and down.

Running a cold engine for a long time is not a good idea.

It's literally impossible for you to drive a vehicle that is running, and it being "cold" for a long period of time. What will happen is the vehicle will not run efficiently if it is not at the normal operating temperature.

If it is getting to 200 degrees in the 10-15 minutes....and you have a new thermostat in there....then it is fine.
