Figured i would post this up, even though its pretty obvious how to do it. Ill show you how to do this like i did on my truck.
I changed up the color though, just messed around. Keep in mind. I did this quick, so. It didnt come out as good as my other but its just to give you an idea.
Materials:
-Sand paper 400-600 grit.
-(2)Spray Paint of your color choice
-Primer of your choice
-Clear coat of your choice
-Painters Tape
-Blade, New sharp.
-Straight Edge
-Something to paint on.
-Time to do nothing
Step 1.
Prep the surface by sanding it down. I only show half of the sanding job. I actually took this all the way back down to the original clear coat and roughed it up. The paint wont stick well to an old paint job. Trust me.
Step 2.
Wipe it down really good with some rubbing alcohol and a clean rag. Now, hit it with a coat of Primer. I used an autobody filler primer to fill in the small spots. Allow to dry 10 minutes, if you see any imperfections hit it with another coat. Then allow to dry another ten minutes.
Step 3.
Now wipe it down again, this time just a dry rag. No alcohol. Now hit it with a basecoat. Light coats! Trust me. Its better. Allow to dry 10 minutes between each coat. I did three coats. Here is what it looked like after a third.
Step 4.
Let it dry for ATLEAST half hour after the last basecoat. Make sure its dry to the touch. No tackiness. Then tape over the whole emblem with the painters tape.
Step 5.
Take your SHARP blade and Straight edge and slowly cut nice straight lines around the whole emblem. Make it as thick or thin as you desire. Just line it up nicely. ( I did a poor job on this one, no ruler used. Didnt feel like it lol)
Step 6.
Now, Spray a nice even coat of your trim coat. Light coats are best. Let dry for 10 minutes, then hit it with another coat. I only do two coats on the trim. Seems to be plenty.
Step 7.
Allow those coats to dry for another half hour atleast. Then take your blades point. And carefully grab a corner of the tape and pull it up slowly. Dont wait until the trim coat is wicked dry, or peeling that tape up will result in paint also coming up. Dont ask why, just never worked for me.
Step 8.
Now hit it with a few light coats of Clear, I do the first two lightly then the last a little heavy. Make sure to put the clear coat on within an hour of the last trim coat. And here is what the outcome is, Like i said. Mine is now where near perfect. I just wanted to post this up. Enjoy guys.
