Well after owning an 06 ppv for 7 years, its time to fix her front suspension and rear shocks. So far, I have bought all of my parts from rock auto.

Upper/lower control arms.
pitman arm
idler arm and bracket
stabilizer links
inner and outer tie rods
rear bump stops
service manual
new brake pads and rotors for front and rear

What I have left to get are:

front bump stops. I only see triangular and square ones on rock auto.
front and rear shocks. still gotta figure out what is under there.

I do not have any impact tools and I have an opportunity to buy a 115v ingersol rand 30gal garage mate compressor for $999 before shipping and tax. I am unsure whether or not to get the compressor or an electric impact from milwaukee.

I am not a mechanic. I have only changed brake pads, calipers and rotors and fluids minor interior fixes and swappiung out heater hoses. This is new frontier for me.

In my 17ish years of forum browsing and commenting, I have never made a thread so please forgive me if my thread is hard to follow.

Well, that’s quite the list. Only thing I can think of, and I’m not as familiar with the NBS models, is maybe front wheel bearings and if your PPV is 4WD, maybe the CV shafts.

As for not having any air tools, I went for a lot of years and did a lot of wrenching without air tools. They help, but are not a requirement.

Before I spent money on an air compressor and air tools, I’d look at making sure I had other basic tools like a quality torque wrench. I’d also recommend a good scan tool like a Tech2 clone.

As for air vs cordless? It depends. Hard to take an air compressor very far, but an air compressor typically doesn’t need recharged and the tools can be lighter. I have some of both and they each have their place.

Good luck on your efforts and check back in if you have questions or hit a road block.

Just did all this stuff a few months ago, I love my Milwaukee M18 1/2" Impact but I'm fairly certain the only thing I used it on was the lug nuts themselves. Everything else was either their M12 cordless ratchet or basic hand tools because there's not enough room for the big impact and the M12 wasn't strong enough to break the torque of 15year old bolts.

If you have the $999.99 to spend I would highly advise starting a Milwaukee collection, my air tool drawer is rarely opened and my compressor is pretty much used strictly for tire inflation nowadays.

Also if this is your daily driver I highly suggest only doing one section at a time as stuff is likely to take longer than expected.

I’ll second that, I have air and cordless and if I was starting over today I’d get cordless first. There’s a lot of reviews online for tools. Get a good cordless impact and it’s capable of anything on a half ton chassis. Don’t buy the cheap imitations and expect them to last like the major names. But for occasional use the consumer brands are fine.

I got my bump stops off of eBay or Amazon, one of the two. It was like $20 for the front and the back (all of which were toast on my truck). They're doing just fine and fit perfectly.

I have the z56 package on my ppv so those wont work. Those bumpstops are almost twice the size as what is on the front already.

I guess once I get everything off, I can see what shocks I have front and rear and get the same. I know this is annoying without pics but I will get some up with my camera phone lol soon as I get the tools to tear down.

I have gotten my brakes off on the driver side. The passenger side is stuck. Just one dang bolt lol. ANyways, I need to replace a rubber part I can njot identify and I am still unable to figure out what shocks I have on the front. I know that the rear PPV oem shock is 911545 by monroe as told to me by rock auto. I have searched the numbers on the front shocks with no success. I have only found a reference to a shock that is not what I have. here are the numbers I can see if anyone may know about them. 15200991 CDN 11513 A27255A.

Well, I got everything off and I am in the process of putting it all back together. I got past the common pitman arm and idler arm problems fairly easily. I did not have to remove torsoin keys or bars whenI swapped lower control arms. I ran into numerous problems but I got past them all. Now, I am stuck with a stripped lower control arm bolt and nut. I replaced the bolt and I tried to replace the nut but I can not find a replacement(OEM like I have). I only see stuff on amazon and it all seems sketchy. There are some doorman control arm bolts that seem to fit the bill but I keep hearing that doorman is not a good brand to buy. Rock auto replacements only came with the bolt. I could not find a nut on the site. Any suggestions?

Side note, after sitting for almost 2 months, I see some fluid leaking from the point where the transmission connects to the drive shaft. Transmission fluid leak perhaps?
