Hey it's me again I found a 97 tranny rebuilt for pretty cheap will it fit my 96 with no problem? They both came from 5.7s and four wheel drive.

If you crawl up under the truck look for a Identification plate on the transfer case It should say NP (new Processes) and some numbers 241,243,246, ect. if the numbers match then yes it will .

My opinion , I think it will with no issues . I don't think 97s had Auto 4wd which would be the 246 auto trace

the trannys will swap regardless of the tcase number because the tcase is irrelevant between them for your purposes. the difference is in 1998 they changed tc setup. and bell housing. that is what requires some minor parts changes.
