Greetings and salutations.

I’m an American citizen in Ibadan, Nigeria and I thought it best to keep a fellow citizen in the fleet.

I purchased a 2007 Tahoe 2LT a week ago. I lived in North Texas and Southern California for 33 years before going back home to Africa.

So all of a sudden I noticed a rather large oil leak at the front U-Joints.

Here’s my issue. I don’t think it’s coming from the front seal at the slip yoke. Rather think it’s coming from the back of the yoke itself. Is that possible.

I’ll appreciate any guidance on this. Do I have to buy a new yoke or can I use RTV?

We do have a CarQuest store here.

Thank you for your time.

Welcome to the forum! Fairly common issue with the 4L80E. There's a weep hole in the yoke that relieves pressure as the driveshaft moves in and out over bumps and such. If the transmission tail shaft o-ring is leaking, on the yoke is where you'll see it. More info here, though it shows a 700R4:

Here it is on the 4L80E:

Thanks for your response. According to my VIN this rig has a 4L60-E.

Can I just seal the end of the yoke with RTV? I don’t have confidence that I can easily find the O ring referenced.

Thanks.

PS: I read all the links.

No matter 4L60 or 4L80 for this - they both have a seal there and a breather hole in the yoke.

Unfortunately not. You'll need the o-ring. That said, it should only leak if it's parked facing uphill, so there's that. You can just keep an eye on the transmission fluid and add when needed.
