During a recent trip of about 350 miles one way, I pulled in to a Chevron station for fuel after I crossed into Washinton. There I can pump my own fuel. I put the nozzle in and it had the vapor catch on the fuel fill spout. Right away the fill shut off. It did it repeatedly and I had to put in a half tank with a slow moving process. I was worried my evap system, that I had recently completely replaced, was defective, I had no CEL or performance problems. Next fuel fills since then have went without a hitch......no problems whatsoever. IMO, the pump had the problem. It happens but when has been talked about here, I always erred to a fault in the vehicle evap system. Lesson learned.
