I was skeptical at first

During a recent trip of about 350 miles one way, I pulled in to a Chevron station for fuel after I crossed into Washinton. There I can pump my own fuel. I put the nozzle in and it had the vapor catch on the fuel fill spout. Right away the fill shut off. It did it repeatedly and I had to put in a half tank with a slow moving process. I was worried my evap system, that I had recently completely replaced, was defective, I had no CEL or performance problems. Next fuel fills since then have went without a hitch......no problems whatsoever. IMO, the pump had the problem. It happens but when has been talked about here, I always erred to a fault in the vehicle evap system. Lesson learned.

You know I had the same thing happen to me outside of DC two months ago. What a PITA. It was such a slow process, I decided to switch pumps. No issues with the second pump.
I was at just over 1/2 tank when stopped, so I just decided to wait it out instead of switching pumps.

Some gas station pumps are bad, especially here in california they require a evap system also, you go to a state like nevada it has no evap system pumps work great.
You know... I was going to say this happened to me a few times as well, but now I realize it was only while I was living in California. I don't recall this ever happening here... Give or take the money pit Suburban I'm still trying to fix (Evap codes and all). It would only take 7 gallons at the pump. :-(

there is one about a mile from me that wont even give 20 cents worth and shuts off, it has a huge evap hose on it, the station across the street from it that will fill it up no problem

Did you ever let them know? You strike me as the type that would do it (I would, assuming no hurry on my part). But I am often more of a busy-body than others, so no offense intended if you did or did not.

Since I did not know if was my rig or the pump problem causing my concern, I did not find out till next fill up that it was the pump. When I think back, that place was a mess. The men's bathroom was closed because of a broken toilet and I had to pee in the ladies room. The pump was messed up. No ice because the cooler for the ice was on the fritz. I said, hell with it.

In WI we don't have that crap. I have run into issues in the past with that sort of pump while traveling. I ended up holding the stupid snout thing off at a little angle with my finger so it could breathe and it worked for me. Not sure if the new ones out by you guys are different now. Stupid idea IMO
