lift your front end off the ground and grab one wheel and rock it back and forth very lightly, if the opposing wheel moves with it then your tight and the idler and pitman arms are probably good. if you can do that and the opposing wheel doesnt move at all then there is play in the steering probably coming from either the idler or pitman or both. if there is i suggest replacing both because in order to remove the pitman arm you should need to pull the idler. its a pain in the ass, but not what i would call difficult. i believe someone on here has a very nice write up. also while your doing this check your hubs and the tierods

Didn't you do a write up on this, MadMan? Someone needs to sticky those threads or moving them over to the Tech section.

I did indeed. If you just search this forum section for "How To" I've intentionally named them all with "how to" in the thread name. Do you think I should just copy/paste them over? Or should we bug an admin type to do it more efficiently?

I think bugging an admin would do. That way we have just one thread dedicated to that "How To" where members can post questions and the such and not have a billion threads on the subject.

Rebuilt my front end...a real pain in the ass! did my upper ball joints while I was at it...get a torch and a hammer on an air gun and beat the hell outta them!

The Idler Arm, which I believe is on the right, was the easiest...look underneath, it's self explanatory on what you have to remove...just remember, these peices have been through hell! the Arm nearest towards the driverside...goodluck. connected to the power steering controls and the whole steering assembly has to be dropped.

Mark your tierods and sleeves when putting back together for alignment purposes...and grease! for the squeaks will get ya!

A lot has be taken apart for those two parts...labor sucks and it would be faster if the orginal parts werent stuck together after all that it has been through since first produced.
