The odo/gear selector display in my Tahoe went out. I found this company on eBay. The cluster repair for my ride wasn’t on one of their auctions but can be found on their web site. When I asked about repairing just my odo/gear selector, this is what they told me.

We found that the stepper motors in the GM clusters like yours will fail sooner or later. They all use a plastic gear which invariably fails. Our replacements use a brass gear which gives them a life expectancy longer than the vehicle. This is why we recommend having them replaced.

We can repair just your odometer/gear selector display for $85. It will have a 5-year warranty, but if any of your gauges fail, they will not be covered. Or for $120, we will repair the odometer/gear selector display and replace the stepper motors. In addition, the entire cluster will be guaranteed for 5-years.

Given this, it made sense to have the whole thing rebuilt. So, for $120 + $16 for insured return shipping, I had my instrument cluster repaired. You can’t buy a used one for that much on eBay. Plus, if you buy a used one, it might break, and you would also have to have the mileage reprogrammed. This way, there is no need to reprogram the mileage and your cluster is guaranteed for 5 years. It came back clean and polished, looks like new. Turn around time is like 2 or three days.

Below is the URL for their web site and their eBay store. I would highly recommend them to anyone having instrument cluster issues.

07 Tahoe Tahoe Cluster Issue

Hi I read your post and I'm hoping that you can help me. I'm having some issues with my dashboard display.
The Gear Shift selection is faint and the message center is completely out.
I CAN'T see how much air pressure is in my tires etc.
All the others lights are working I CAN see the speed odo, the oil gauge the gas gauge etc.
My question is by having Modular Master rebuild your cluster did it solve all your problems and did you also have the same issues that I having.
Thanks for what info that you can offer to assist me. :)

I did the LED mod myself.
@ Tinker, my display never had the tire pressure indicator so I can’t speak to that. My problem was the gear indicator and odo were out, nothing else. Like I said in the original post, I could have just had that repaired for cheaper but then if the gauges went out I’d have to pay full price so I had them rebuilt to so the whole thing was warranteed. Yes, it did take care of the problem, although, a couple of times lately the odo and gear selector lights have gone out again. I emailed them and they were very willing to take care of things but where it’s intermittent at the time I’m not going to pull it and send it off. If and or when it goes out for good I’ll send it back, they said they’d stand behind their warrantee and fix it for me.
