2000 Chevy tahoe
5.3 Liter V8

I have some questions for the professionals here in the audio department, I'm very skilled at electronics as I do it for a living. (Electronics technician in the oil field) However, I have never wired up any car audio at all and I'm pretty clueless about them. About a year ago somebody broke into my Tahoe and stole my aftermarket system that came with the Tahoe when I bought it. They left the big connector intact. I would like to do something similar to what the guy on this forum did with a Samsung 7 inch tablet, but possibly a little simpler setup. I don't want to buy a head unit with an auxiliary jack because I'm going to permanently place a snap-in case for my phone.

Is it possible to rewire a headphone wire to plug directly into the big fat jack in the stereo compartment and have it play through the car speakers? If so could someone point me in the right direction as to where to put the wires?

Thanks alot in advance!

Please do not take this the wrong way, I am only trying to help.

I would suggest first, before buying anything and wasting money, you do some more research, and learn as much as you can about audio and how all the different components work together to create a 'system'. Wiring is easy, very easy, and with any sort of back ground in electronics you will have no issue understanding the basics.

Once you have a basic understanding of all the components, Head Units, Amps, ECT, and the different types of speakers, Coaxial, Components, Subs ECT, determine what you goal is as far as sound. Then determine what types of equipment you will need to reach your goal. Feel free to ask along the way.

Once you do that, find out what you already own. If there was after market equipment in your truck when you bought it you never know what could be hiding out under the carpet and door panels, you could have 0 gauge power already ran to the cargo area, you could already have 300 dollar sets of components in your doors, you just never know until you rip it all apart.

Once you have done all that, put together a shopping list of what you want to buy to get to your sound goal, and post that here, and feel free to post along the way 'What would be better, speaker A or speaker B' threads to get advice! Also join other Car Audio specific websites ( caraudio.com and caraudioclassifieds.org are good ones ) and as the same questions across 3 different websites, soak in as much information as possible.

Once that is all done, you will only have to click the check out button once! Then you can get all of your goodies, set aside a 3 day weekend or something and knock it all out of the park at once! You'll love the results and enjoy your new system. Then roughly a week later you'll want to get louder. ( That last sentence was a joke, sorta. )

you do realize that he wasn't asking on how to install any of the stuff you have listed right?

he's wanting to run his speakers off of his galaxy s3's headphone jack.

to the op, i'm sure it could be done. but i'd be leary of how good the sound quality would be doing that. also, don't forget about the remote wire for the amp. would have to figure out a way to get that to turn on, since your s3 wouldn't be able to do it.

Also, have you ever charged your phone while the headphone jack is playing music? You can hear the engine buzz on my s3, so I got a cheap Bluetooth head unit and I am loving it. I just need to figure out what I am going to do about mounting the phone for nav reasons.

Thanks!

Thanks for all the help with my question. to the first poster, Thanks that's a huge amount of information and I thank you. However I don't really want to have the best and brightest sound system of them all. I've been driving my 183,000 mile tahoe now for a year or so without a radio at all. lol So Basically just asking if the setup would work. I understand about the amplifier enable line though, so ya I'll probably just end up breaking down and buying a cheapo head unit with a aux in. Thanks for all the help.

Maybe invest in a good Bluetooth speaker or one with an audio jack?
