I've had this Tahoe for about 2 years now. It has about 160,000 miles and I had the trans rebuilt and pulled the engine shortly after I bought it because it did the ol 4L60E bang shift. I tore the engine down to the short block but there was still crosshatch in the bores. So I installed a new oil pump and timing chain, bought a gasket set and the MPFI conversion injectors. I went from 13 to 16 mpg afterward. I went crazy and replaced all the accessories and drive components minus alt and a/c comp., which looked new when I bought it.
I drove it for the last 2 years but got bored and it was sagging in the back. So rather than lower it like I have done to nearly every other vehicle, I decided to go with a modest 2" Rough Country lift. It still rides good too which I am happy about.
One note about the lift, I bought new leaf springs for the rear (required partially dropping gas tank) but they were heavier duty than stock so I had to go down to a 1" block to get it level.
Next were the 17x8 Cragar Soft 8's and 265/70-17 tires. I was going to put the 88-93 grille because I had to have the 88-89 headlights but I didn't want to fool with the filler panel/paint. So I modified the lights and an aftermarket (super cheesy) late model grille to fit the sealed beams. Then i did the all on highbeams with power directly from the battery.
Problems left to deal with:
Paint: It is fading and peeling off the roof and hood and FAST.
Flickering lights: does it mostly at idle, I have added grounds, nothing works, parts store says the diodes are good.
Interior lights wont work on the door switches, have manually use the dimmer to get them on.
Anyway, that's my story and my ride.
