I noticed yesterday that one of the coiled wires on my rear window was hanging down. This was after my wife borrowed it to go shopping her friend and all our kids and hers. She wanted the Burb so they could ride with all 5 kids. So anyways, I asked my wife WTF happened and she swears that nothing snagged on it and ripped it off (as far as she knows) and nobody but her opened the rear hatch.
So here's the problem. The wire didn't come unplugged from the defroster, it ripped the metal tab off the window. I am wondering if it can be soldered back on or something. Or will I need a new rear glass?

Here's a pic of the tab that got ripped off.

And here is the other side, how its supposed to look.

Maybe you could use some glass glue or epoxy to reattach it and then run a bead of solder to the glass.

I looked this up on Google. I found a place that sells a "repair kit" which looks like a metal paste that dries hard. In the description it says soldering it can damage the defroster grid. So are they full of shit? Soldering it is fine?

I know the grid is very thin so the heat from soldering could possibly damage it. I have a tiny scratch on one of my grid lines and now the line doesn't work so I know they're delicate. Are they full of shit? Not sure.

The subs ripped mine, metal stayed on but the little plastic piece came off so there was just a small piece of metal there. No way it will go back on so all I did was tuck it under the trim... Luckily in AZ I don't need the defroster.

Scotty. Do you know by chance where to get the tabs. And if you have any paste left send it my way. I will pay!

Soldering is how GM says to repair the problem. It works just fine. You have to be careful not to overheat the glass though or it can damage the grid. The paste crap never works for very long, it always seems to come back not working at some point.

That's not true. I used the silver epoxy from frostfighter.com and stuck mine back on the back glass, been holding great and fast defrosting for three years now.
