Any advantages to leaving the top cover on your engine on?

Every time I take it off the rubber grommets come off and stick to the motor studs.
Thinking about just leaving it off, any thoughts?

put a little dab of gorilla glue in the hole, let it dry 24hrs, they wont come out no more

Tried it, that and epoxy, plastic epoxy and regular super glue.
Cleaned it real good with acetone beforehand too.
Only thing I can do now is wire the rubber to the plastic or create some sort of magnet system..
Almost just not worth it all, that's why I'm asking.
Can't imagine it having any other purpose but looks?

Lipstick on a pig. These are great engines but they sure are ugly! Nothing like the beauty of an LC2 or an L98 of the 1980s vintage. Or a Pontiac Tri-Power or Buick Nailhead or 455 Stage I motor...

I was pretty sure that were the case, but I've been surprised before so I thought I'd ask... I think ill just stow it away then. its a pain to put back on, very surprised how a mild leveling kit has decreased my reach under the hood. I'm 6' 1 and have a hard time reaching the rear of the motor.

I only worry about snow melt and it puddling in the valleys on top the engine...don't know if the plastic shield would help deflect any of that...

I was just commenting on how ugly the motors are, not sure if the cover provides any protection or not. It would seem to me that it does a little bit though, haven't given it much thought.

It does provide some protection from oil splashing on it etc...



I had one on my impala and it was stolen by a dealership without saying anything.. yes it was under recall that part (contributing factor in engine fires) but they should have said something even a buy back . before taking it.. (it's stealing from me i felt like i had gotten robbed ) this was just right before a big recall for it was announced .. yes this part had caught fire in the past and had an indication of a previous open flame on the plastic.. maybe a cover up by GM and the dealers. to the fire issue but it showed were the typical spot for the fires were starting... would have been PR nightmare to find out that it was being started by oil Tube neck being too long leaky valve cover gaskets too


get it "cover up"..
