So I just got this 99 Tahoe bear with me. I just tried to recharge my AC. when I turn on ac in front or ANY air functions in front nothing blows from the front vents. Now up at the window the defrost area blows however. In the back seat area the vents work just fine and are blowing borderline cold air.

Would it be an easy fix? When I went to recharge my AC it is not kicking on and sucking it in through I was told could be the clutch? Something is not engaging the guy at OReilly told me.

This weekend I am planning on getting a new exhaust manifold installed, alignment, new front speakers, and trying to get all my LEDs installed, so I am guessing this will be added to the list.

So the mode control control does not change flow at all. And the compressor does not engage but some how the rear does blow some cold refrigerated air. All at the same time. That does not sound possible so maybe I misread something. The fan switch may be broken internally leaking 12 volts to the HVAC control head to disable all functions. Normally when you turn on the blower the disabling 12 volt signal is removed and all functions are normal. I can get you wire diagrams and diagnostic chart if you want just let me know where you want to start. It can get complicated to find but once found the appropriate fix is pretty easy.

Mine did this too last summer... I researched it alot and was out of ac for about a week in 105+ weather. To fix mine i had to buy a new control unit. The thing that has the knobs in the dash under the headunit. i got mine from a junkyard that just pulled it out of a tahoe the day before. it was nasty... but after about 4 hours of cleaning that dang thing up my ac is back to normal. maybe thats what you need to look into getting....

my control quit workin on high and bought a replacement and the factory one was melted. now when its above 95 degrees inside it still wont work on high with the new one but once it cools some it will work. going to clean it some more. also before i replaced it it would only blow out up by the windshield and a little on the floor. now it blows out my vents pretty good.

Yeah bigger issues my Tahoe is bogging down and just felt like it lost a lot of power driving. I have to step ******* gas to get it to go anywhere I know it is not blown headgasket but right now it's down at the mechanic and they are installing a new AC clutch and other stuff. I am ready to be "F'd in my A" by 5pm today.

Nope guess what it was? My Brakes were shot. Extremely neglectful on my part when I test drove it and looked at everything. I replaced Calipers, Rotors, Pads in the front. Back has about 20% left and will do those next month.

I was quoted 1024.00 for the front and rear at a shop. Told em hell no. Went to Oreillys bought all the parts for 200.00 and had a Mobile Mechanic do the work at my apartment. Paid 80+ a 40.00 tip just because.

The brakes are much better though and the engine is strong. I am going to get a new AC setup soon. Probably hit up a junkyard tomorrow for all parts.

As far as the air not blowing out of the vents id say it could be either the switch or possible blend door actuator. if the blend door will not open to allow air through the vents then all that air has to go somewhere ie the defrost vents are the default. now how exactly your compressor isnt engaging and your gettting cold air through the rear sounds like pfm to me.

Could you verify the operation of the system here again you mentioned you are getting air in the back but the compressor is not functioning?
