ok this is an ongoin issue ive been havin with my 01 2wd tahoe...
i thought i resolved the problem but no..its back..
a few months ago ....i put the key into the ignition and turned the key once, and the truck cranked on its own. I had not fully turned the key all the way.
It cranked and made a never ending loud grindin sound as if i was holdin the key foward.....
I took it to my mechanic and he couldnt find the problem. He changed some solenoids and threw in a new ignition switch ...changed the starter and alternator...(this after a 3rd trip)..
When he changed the ignition switch ..the truck was fine for a few months.
But the crankin issue would continue to a low minimun.....if i took out the key and reinserted it, it would crank fine......or if i let it chill for a few min n tried again.
But..sometimes ..the truck would start fine...with a lil grindin noise...and when id shift to reverse...it would make some loud Grindin sounds......
When i press the brake in park.....i hear a small clickin sound right behind the steerin wheel....i cant remember if that was normal prior to the whole grindin action the tahoe has taken.
the tahoe is up there in miles....im guessin around 200,000...
she doesnt run the same...if i punch it...the shiftin does tend to slip a bit .
Has any 1 else had similar problems?

time for a new tahoe, it seems the issues you have could be very costly once you go in and just start changing the random things you/they think it is and still not solving it could add up alot!! could just sell the truck and pay a little bit more to get one with less miles and ware instead of piling money into one with a big list of problems... good luck

I feel your pain. My 02yukon is paid off, 115k miles. I want to keep it till 200k+ God willing. My guesses regarding your issues:
Grinding noise with starting....possibly flywheel. GM's use to have a problem with this yrs ago, but have improved dramatically since the 80's-90's, but ya never know. Hope not though...expensive fix.

Slipping shifts...when' s the last time you drained and filled the tranny? I probably wouldn't flush an old tranny like that, but just drain and fill, and look at the magnet for particles. Check the level of tranny fluid if you can't drain/fill soon. I had slipping issues this past year and found I was a whole quart low (level was just barely hitting the dipstck when checked hot as per manual). 1 quart brought it up to the middle of the crosshatched area on stick and slipping shifts gone.

the last time i changed the oil in the tranny was...when it hit 80k miles.
its past due for another
i thought about the flywheel..
as the truck was pullin out today ....at the end of the grindin sound......it sounded like a metal fan type blade being flicked.....
dunno seems like no 1 has an answer ...
