I last tuned my truck up when I bought in '04 I did a full tune up because I was getting a misfire code when I went up steep hills. Since then I have have not had 1 engine problem. Prepping for a road trip this spring I told my mechanic to tune it up and do the brakes. He did the brakes but said there's no reason to tune it up cuz it's running perfectly. I mean just last week I scraped the starter trying to start while the truck was already running, that how smooth the idle is on her.
Also I have never changed the tranny fluid. When I asked my mechanic about it he said he could but why. Fluid is still pink and he said I may do more damge than good at this point.
I wanna hear what other Tahoe/Yukon owners think about this advice.

If you feel that a tranny service should be done then i'd have it done...esp if you have no idea when the last time it was done. The guy i took my Tahoe to for a tranny service told me that my tranny fluid looked good and my transmission its self was in outstanding shape. However,he performed the service anyway cuz thats what i asked for and payed for...gives piece of mind.

Just cuz a motor is running good does not mean that a full tune up should not be done (IMO).My Tahoe ran great but i still opt to do a good tune up on it.

If your trans fluid looked good then i don't see how changing the fluid and filter could do more damage then good...lol.

I think you are on the right track and have a good maintenance practice. If need be you may have to find another place to take your Tahoe too.Maybe someone who won't question what you want done, esp when it comes to simple maintenance...

I don't think I'm going to change mechanics because he the best one I've had in a few years. He will point out things if he sees it as well. BUT I am going to get the tranny fluid changed simply because I don't know if it's EVER been done. I know it hasn't since I got it. The tune up I'll wait a while for, it's running great, knock wood, right now! LOL He doesn't refuse just suggests, he'll gladly take my money if I insist. Thanks though.

Yep! And I sure hope it does because I don't see getting rid of her, by choice, in my cards.

My tahoe ran like a top until I was about 200 miles from the house and went through some heavy rain and got some water in the distributor and then it ran like complete shit. My plugs, wires, and distributor were all stock with 160k miles on them. Just an example of how my hoe ran smooth as hell and then a little rain caused some problems on a road trip

Excellent point for getting the tune-up on GP. I hardly go local in my truck anymore, save for about 3 tailgates a year and the rare home depot/lowes run. I'm getting good gas mileage too. My last trip on Labor Day I drove from NJ well into VA on 1 tank. I mean almost to NC.Night riding, no traffic cruise set about 6-7 miles above local limits. I clicked 390 and still had about 1/8 of a tank, but it was too late to wait for the gas light. Not the adventurous mf'er I used to be! LOL
