Good afternoon,
I am a brand new member of this forum since I have recently bought my first Yukon. Technically my wife's truck, but never mind about that.
The truck is a 95 Yukon GT 4x4 with the 350 V8 with around 135k miles. When she bought it she didn't notice the massive PS leak pouring under the truck. It was leaking out of every place I could think that fluid could leak. All hose connections, input shaft on gear box, etc. Since it's new to us and I don't know anything about the trucks history, I decided to just replace all the parts that were involved with the leak. Pump (with reservoir), both hoses and the gear box. Once all parts were installed and I went through the bleed procedure (I read lots of forum posts and watched a handful of YouTube videos to make sure I knew what to expect) it was time to take it on it's first drive. All went well. I basically drove it through residential streets for a mile or so, then on a busier street with a 50mph speed limit, then back onto residential streets. PS felt great. No issues at all, no smells, seemed like a solid fix. An hour later, took the wife for a drive to show her all was well, and about a mile into the drive, I lost all PS in the middle of a turn. No power assistance and the loud whine that comes with lack of fluid in PS system. So I linked the truck home, let it cool off a short time and went to look at it. No leaks in the system. Reservoir is full. What might the issue be?
I made a very short video of the truck running, the whining noise (with very light pressure on the steering wheel to try and turn) and of the fluid in the reservoir with the truck running (but not trying to turn the wheels). I don't know if linking to a video is allowed here, or if it would even be helpful.
This was going to be my ongoing, learn as you go so of project with me disassembling and reassembling a thousand times to figure out what I did wrong, but the wife wrecked her daily driver this week and needs some reliable wheels quicker than I was planning.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. And if anybody thinks that looking at the video might help with diagnosis, and it's allowed, I will link that here too.
Thank you, and have a great day.
Terry
