After reading a little, looks like this problem most often is in the valve body and it's a fairly common problem.

someone said:
The problem is in the Valve Body, worn valve bore causing cross leaks. Either replace vavle body or service as needed. All transmission shops including this one should know how to fix this. There is also a cheat method to this fix, block the valve in the bore, but it will not fix the cross leak, mearly stick the valve to the on position. Works but can cause a firm lock-up engagement, drivabillity concerns may come up. Also confirm pump pressure with a guage at highway cruise speeds to see if pressure regulator boost valve is not at fault. Good Luck to all!

You can go two routes with this... either

A: Have the valve body reamed out(cleaned) which takes special tools that if i remember correctly cost approx $100... - trans shop will charge approx $300 to clean the valve body and the problem will come back - or

B: Get a TransGo shift kit the kit is decently cheap actually and the trans shop will install it for around $250-$300 - also get a corvette servo and have the shop do that as well.. the servo is like $10-15 shop should just include it in the price mentioned above because of how easy it is to install the servo... - the problem will not come back.. however be warned there a different stages you can set this kit at.. and each stage comes with a different feel.. the transmission will now shift Hard - to very Hard depending on what you want - the servo has washers(i do belive) and i think that it is the less washers you put on the less stiff the shift is the more you put on the harder it is.. the TransGo kit requires holes to be drilled in the valve body the smaller the hole the less stiff.. the bigger the hole the harder the shift.. - The TransGo is more of a Correction kit than a Shift kit
