looks good, I did something similar on mine except the lights are up along the firewall, careful with that wire near the hood spring, I did some other mods before and the hood spring likes to eat wires if there not carefully placed

I have seen yours, it looks good... at least I think it was yours.

I just thought mounting them higher up would give more useable light output.

That was my concern as well... I put wire loom on it and zip tied it over to another harness by the brake booster.... but thanks for the heads up, I will definitely keep an eye on it.

I used 12v solar led strips made for lighting up the backyard there pretty heavy duty (thick plastic coating) about 3/8" thick should hold up a long time

So I have always thought it was stupid that GM decided NOT to install an underhood light from the factory. It's a $50k+ truck for crying out loud.... maybe that's why they didn't think it needed it... anyone that can afford it probably would just have it towed to the dealership... lol

Anyway it has always bugged me because " I do my own stunts " so I took some left over LEDs I had laying around and an old "mercury/hood switch" and wired them up today.

I cleaned the hood with alcohol where I intended to stick them and then stuck them in place. I was worried the tape wouldn't hold up to the heat under the hood so I drilled 1/8" holes on either side of the strip about every 6 to 8 inches and ran a zip tie through and around the strip to secure them for the long haul... hopefully.

I wired the strip to the mercury switch and tucked everything inside the hood bracing out of sight. I drilled another hole to run a zip tie through and around the mercury switch to hold it tight to the inside of the hood brace.

I then attached the positive lead to the wiper fuse and grounded it to a bolt on the AUX battery tray. I put some wire loom around the wires where it exits the hood brace at the lower driver side of the hood.

It seems to get the job done pretty well.

Pay no attention to how dirty the engine bay is... I need to clean it up some time.

Hopefully this works out well over time and the heat doesn't affect the LEDs longevity.

My Brothers '96 Silverado had an underhood light AND another light on the fender that you could pull out and use it and then reel it back in when done. The '96 Silvy didn't cost anywhere near $50k.

ya I have a couple pieces of it left I want to put them under the running boards since my viper alarm wont light up the puddle lights but is programmed to light up the interior lights so I can just patch the strips into the interior light harness, should probably do that soon...

I have one of those lights on the reel. It was/is a great idea. I gotta hook it up one day.

I did strip lights like that but without zip ties. About half burned out after a year. The ones I installed on the bottoms of my doors are still working so I think it was the heat. Or else the Whipple sucked the life out of them.
