Keyless Entry Problem: SOLVED

Whats up everyone I'm new to the forum.

Anyways my keyless entry doesn't work on my truck I just bought. The remote I got is worn so I assume it was working. So I put in a new battery and it still doesn't work. I've jumped the OBD2 port and tried to reset the remote, no luck. I was researching and heard the remotes go bad. I went to the junkyard and found a buick and a pontiac remote and tried to sync those...no luck.

All the power locks work and they cycle when I jump pin 4 and 8 on the OBD2 connector, but the keyless entry doesn't work. All the fuses are good.

Any clues?

is this what you tried?

believe it to be terminal in upper right corner of DLC.

  1. Ground pin G of the Data Link Connector (DLC).

    • Receiver will respond by locking and unlocking doors within 2 seconds.

  1. Press any button of the first transmitter to be programmed.
  2. The control module will respond by locking/unlocking doors and activating rear window release.
  3. Press any button of the second transmitter to be programmed (if used).
  4. The control module will respond by locking/unlocking doors and activating the rear window release.
  5. Remove the ground applied to the reprogramming connector.
  6. Transmitter operation is verified by locking and unlocking the doors and activating the rear window release.

also check the metal retainer that hold the battery in the remote. the solder breaks and they wont make a connection on the circuit board .

Yes I grounded pin 8 to pin 4 with a paper clip and tried to sync the remote many times, even the other GM remotes didn't work. But the locks did cycle when I gounded it. But they did not cycle again pressing unlock and lock on any of the remotes. I held down unlock and lock on the remotes to reset/clear them first. Not sure if that makes a difference.

Also, only one key works in the ignition. Does this truck have passlock? I'd be screwed if I lost the key.

also check the metal retainer that hold the battery in the remote. the solder breaks and they wont make a connection on the circuit board .
The remote looks fine. I tried two other remotes from a Pontiac and a Buick also.

I think I might have to pull out the radio (which is stock BTW I don't think the keyless entry module has been messed with) and see if the module is bad.

I think you are one year to early for passlock. Also at this point I would like to suggest you get a remote from the dealer this time. About $40.

Anyone have the GM part # for the remote? ... 1997 2DR Z71

Can I assume that a GM fob will work after I uninstalled the alarm system (I bought it used a few months ago). Only fobs that I got were for the alarm system.

I.e. where is the receiver?... would there be a reason for someone to disable the receiver when installing an alarm.
